Versatile additives for water-borne coatings

In today's coatings market increasing resources are devoted to development of sustainable, environmentally friendly, and regulatory compliant solutions. As a supplier to the coatings industry, this is a major focus for the Dynoadd development team. A key focus area is development of new additives which can facilitate the increased adoption of water-borne coatings in industry. Development, testing and properties of new flow, levelling and wetting additives for water-borne coatings will be presented. Polysiloxane polymers were assessed for substrate wetting, flow and levelling, compatibility, surface slip and foam properties. The selected polymers were chosen for their complementary strengths in a range of applications. Novel non-ionic, structured polymers were developed for pigment dispersion in water-borne systems. Paint samples prepared with the addition of 10% pigment pastes were used to assess coating properties, including color, gloss, and jetness. The series of dispersing agents displayed excellent pigment affinity, rapid initial wetting and deflocculation, and low viscosity, dispersing a variety of pigments to produce resin-free pigment pastes.
