Unique polyester diol modifiers for general purpose solventborne and waterborne urethanes

 
Increasing VOC regulations continue to challenge coatings formulators in Europe to develop compliant systems. A series of low molecular weight polyester diol resin modifiers designed to help formulate VOC compliant solvent-based and water-based urethane coatings with improved film properties are presented. Due to the narrow molecular weight distribution of the subject polyester diol resins, they have excellent solubility in many solvents and are easily dispersed in water. As modifying resins, these Diols provide increased toughness, improved film flexibility while maintaining hardness, along with other performance enhancements in solventborne and waterborne urethane applications.
