Unique & highly compatible additive for sustainable PU-based coatings

 
It remains an open challenge to apply high-performance hydrophobic additives in water-based Polyurethane Coatings. Therefore, the toolbox for developing super-hydrophobic automotive or plastic coatings continues to be limited. With the extensive experience in the R&D labs of Shin-Etsu Silicones, this challenge has been solved. Careful selection of solubilizing chains and a hydrophobic core have lead to the launch of a new silicone emulsion. It is a further successful example of cold-blending technology. The additive shows a very high compatibility in sustainable water-based PU coatings and improves the key parameters with long-lasting effect: high gloss, excellent light & solvent stability, as well as high stain resistance. At the same time, it is easy to apply and highly cost-efficient. The background of this product line is presented, and the technical results are shown in details. The new products KR-4000G and X-48-1801 represent very valuable compounds in Shin-Etsu's portfolio of high-performance additives in polyurethane coatings.
