Towards a circular economy: innovative coatings containing recycled and biobased products

The circular economy refers to an economic concept that fits in the context of sustainable development, unlike the current global economy which is based on a linear system. A circular economy is an industrial system that is restorative or regenerative by intention and design. It replaces the end-of-life concept with restoration, shifts towards the use of renewable energy, eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, which impair reuse and return to the biosphere, and aims for the elimination of waste through the eco design of materials, products, systems and business models. In this field, we develop innovative coatings containing recycled and/or containing bio-based materials. New coatings have been made by incorporating recycled natural rubber in different organic matrices.
