Nanotechnology and nanoparticles are used to produce functional and smart coatings by molecular rearrangements or can be used to modify existing coating formulations to leapfrog their performance properties. One way of producing nanoparticles is by using sol-gel technology. In this article we have shown the use of sol-gel technology to create unique self-cleaning, superhydrophobic, easy to clean, anti-graffiti, anticorrosion and abrasion resistant coatings.
