02.12.2021 Sustainable flame retardants for clear water-based wood coatings Back Tools Bookmark Share A new generation of polymeric, sustainable flame retardants will be presented. These novel polymeric products are designed for water-based clear wood lacquers. Use of these additives allows the coated wood to pass certain flammability tests required by building codes around the world. Depending on the products used, the formulators have options to adjust the appearance of the coating, preserving the natural wood look in parallel to standing in flame retardant s standards. The presentation will overview flame retardant products currently used in wood coatings, and data acquired with the new developments. The data will include small scale and large scale flammability results (including SBI and steiner tunnel testing), as well as appearance and properties of coatings prepared with the flame retardants.
