03.12.2021 Sustainable bio-based energy-curable polyurethanes in the spotlight Back Tools Bookmark Share A new generation of biobased energy-curable polyurethane dispersions addresses several sustainability themes supporting the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We will demonstrate how green chemistry can address new polymer architectures with increased bio-carbon content enabling material carbon footprint reduction. Three novel products contain from ~22% to ~78% biogenic carbon (ASTM D6866) and can be formulated with each other to achieve the desired balance of coating performance and bio-carbon content. It is exemplified with clear and pigmented coating performance data supporting robust primer and top coat applications for wood. They are solvent-free and avoid chemicals of concern to fulfill today's market demand, and announce the next industrial coating revolution placing the environment as a center point of innovation.
