Superplasticizers for calcined clay blended cements

 
Clinker replacement by SCMs is a common practice in cement industry to reduce the carbon footprint of cement. Among the different SCMs, calcined clay-containing cements are receiving great interest because of the high global availability of clays, low CO2 emissions during their calcination and suitable performance of cements and concrete. In this talk, initially the behavior of a calcined mixed clay (CMC) exhibiting a particularly high metakaolin content (~51 %) in composite cements is discussed. Afterwards, the most relevant research on the interaction between calcined clay-cements and structurally different polycarboxylate superplasticizers and their impact on the rheological properties will be summarized.
