Self-healing materials: A novel solution for extended product lifetime

The continuous market drive for more durable materials with extended lifetimes has stimulated the development of Self-Healing materials. Self-Healing materials offer a novel solution to improved durability and sustainable product design, but existing approaches to achieve the effect are often based on the use of harsh, reactive systems. Our Self-Healing polyol produces intrinsically Self-Healing polyurethane coatings and elastomers due to reversible hydrogen bonding aided by polymer chain mobility. A repetitive Self-Healing ability is demonstrated at room temperature and accelerated at slightly elevated temperatures. The conditions for healing and the mechanical properties such as chemical resistance, barrier properties and coating hardness, can be adjusted through variations in the formulation, indicating the potential for Self-Healing technology in a wide range of coating and elastomer applications. We are now open to smart partnerships with interested companies, offering formulation guidance and technical expertise in order to find the right system for an application.
