03.12.2021 Robust hydrophobic water-borne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) based on novel structural design Back Tools Bookmark Share Development in polymer technology continues to advance the performance of water-based coatings. However, there are still some common weaknesses in 1K water-based coatings such as early water resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, mechanical property stability and durability. In this article, a robust polyurethane dispersion (PUD) resin system is proposed through the selection and sequencing of raw materials leading to novel structural design. These novel structures demonstrate enhanced hydrophobicity and crosslinkable functional groups to overcome the common deficiencies of 1K water-borne resins. Solvents and chemical resistance along with physical and mechanical properties, early water resistance, faster curing and water whitening resistance properties were improved.
