12.06.2017 Renewable polyester resins for reactive baking coatings partially based on bio-based succinic acid Back Tools Bookmark Share Bio-based succinic acid (Bio-SA) has emerged as one of the new bio-based chemicals. Our efficient process considerably reduces the CO2 emissions and energy use compared to analogous petrochemicals. As a platform chemical, Bio-SA can react with glycols to make succinate polyester useful in the coating chemistry. More specifically, we demonstrated that full substitution of adipic acid and partial substitution of aromatics by Bio-SA was not only possible, but also provides interesting features such as improved weathering resistance and elongation, while increasing solid content. We will present its recent findings comparing different Bio-SA based polyester coating for alkyds, coil and can coatings.
