02.12.2021 Removal of coatings from textile substrates Back Tools Bookmark Share In the European H2020 project DECOAT research is being done to remove coatings and paints from textile and plastics substrates, and so enabling circularity. Nowadays these multi-layered products end up in incineration or landfill. By removing the coating/paint, the bulk material can be further processed. Removing the coatings is done by incorporating specially designed triggers into the adhesive layers. At end-of-life, these additives are activated, leading to debonding of the coating. The envisaged triggering actions are microwave radiation, heat and moist. Removal of the coatings can also be achieved via a solvation process, which is also being assessed. This presentation will focus on the obtained results so far on debonding of textile substrates.
