02.12.2021 Recycling of coated materials with a solvent-based recycling process Back Tools Bookmark Share Waste streams that consist of composite materials or are highly heterogeneous often cannot be recycled by classical mechanical recycling. The "CreaSolv" process is a solvent-based recycling process that allows single-material recovery from plastic composites or mixtures and is also capable of effectively eliminating interfering materials such as waste additives. In the DECOAT project, this process is adapted to coated materials. The aim hereby is to either dissolve the coating with a suitable solvent or to swell it so that it delaminates from the substrate. Based on this, a technical process adapted to the respective material is developed to allow the realization of the process in a small-scale demonstration plant. The materials considered in the DECOAT project are coated textiles as well as coated plastic parts from cars or electrical appliances.
