09.09.2019 Progress in the application of organosilicones in heavy-duty water-based epoxy coating systems Back Tools Bookmark Share One of the responses to the continuously tightening VOC (volatile organic content) legislation in coatings and paints industry is the development of alternative technologies allowing much lower levels of organic emissions. In this respect, waterbased approach to coating systems is one of the major directions offering paint formulator an excellent opportunity to design and maintain environmentally compliant products. Notwithstanding the versatility of existing waterborne coating formulations it is often imperative that such systems lack quality performances compared to their solventborne peers. The latter is especially true for the coating technologies based on the epoxide chemistries. In the current paper we will demonstrate how various organosilicone compounds can be used to address existing limitations of waterbased epoxy systems. In particular, various application examples should provide coating specialists with important insights into the formulation of high performance waterbased epoxy primers and Zn-rich primers with improved corrosion resistance and mechanical durability.
