Nuisance algae and fungi on façades and prerequisites for their growth

 
At Fraunhofer IBP unwanted microbial growth on building coatings was studied in detail for many years. Until now more than 200 different species of algae, fungi, bryophytes and lichens have been identified as part of the primary succession on top coatings of ETICS. In the workshop the general question on prerequisites for microbiological growth will be introduced and discussed, also using illustrative material. Important groups and members of abundant nuisance algae and fungi and environmental prerequisites with special emphasis on temperature and humidity are presented. Different measures for prevention or control are discussed with the participants.
