Novel superdurable flexible powder coating

 
For powder coatings it is a challenge to design a powder coating resin system which has a super-durable outdoor durability and is flexible. We have developed a novel binder system consisting of a very specific amorphous and a very specific crystalline polyester resin. The combination of these resins in a powder coating formulation is not straightforward since it poses a number of challenges, such as influencing negatively the process for making powder paints (e.g. extrusion and milling steps of the process), and reducing the powder stability. However, this specific combination of these polyester resins not only can be used to prepare paints via a typical process for making powder paints but it also provides for paints with good powder stability and provides for outdoor-durable and flexible coatings. This combination of properties offers new possibilities in some markets were other powder paints are unable to provide for such combination of properties.
