18.05.2017 Novel stabilizers for improved silicate paints Back Tools Bookmark Share Silicate paints show excellent vapor permeability, are self-conserving, VOC- and label-free and therefore very environmental friendly and attractive for consumers. However, their formulation and handling are challenging due to adverse rheological properties and storage instability, which in spite of the traditional use of additives, is still hampering the broad use of this type of paints. Novel stabilizers are needed to formulate silicate paints with a prolonged shelf-life and improved rheology, thus providing better handling and application profile. In-depth analysis of the rheological properties of silicate paints will be presented as key method for the systematic evaluation of additives. It will be illustrated how this methodology has been successfully used to identify new stabilizers for silicate paints derived from renewable feedstocks.
