Novel RT curable silicone resin emulsions for high temperature coatings

High temperature resistant coatings find applications in many industries (coatings for stoves, exhaust and industrial pipes). In this market, which is dominated by solvent-borne systems due to their superior performance, there is a clear need for more environmentally friendly solutions, given increasingly stricter environmental regulations. Consequently, the development of water-borne high temperature resistant coatings is increasingly investigated - the challenge of this route is getting a competitive performance profile compared to solvent-borne coatings. Silicone resins can be used as film-forming binders and provide a unique resistance to high temperatures in comparison to organic binders. However, moving away from solvent-borne formulations to aqueous ones while maintaining the right level of performance is challenging. In this presentation, we will report recent progress in the development of a RT curable water-borne silicone-based resin for coatings resistant to high temperature, which deliver a balanced and competitive performance profile.
