Novel high performance polymeric dispersants for VOC-free colorants

 
Today most decorative paints are tinted by a combination of specialized colorants. These formulas must provide consistent color development in different paint systems, remain unchanged during storage, and have minimum impact on film properties, all while being cost-effective and complying with regulatory requirements. This is not a trivial task since hard-to-disperse pigments are often part of the package. Stepan has developed patent-pending VOC-free chemistries to address many of these challenges. In this talk, we will introduce our first generation dispersants, which have specialized architectures and functionalities to effectively stabilize multiple organic pigments and carbon blacks without auxiliary additives that can cause subsequent complications. The resulting colorant formulas are less complex, remain stable after storage and let-down, and do not interfere with paint's quality.
