New WB acrylic technology with improved performance for industrial wood exterior applications

The WB acrylic technology has seen in the last 15 years a major performance improvement in developing good properties for early block development, flexibility and water resistance. For these properties, 1K waterborne acrylics are now able to offer good alternatives to solvent borne systems. Unfortunately the conventional polymer design and cross-linking systems often used in 1K waterborne acrylics have lost some of the benefits of traditional acrylic technology, for example good gloss retention and dirt pick-up resistance when used for exterior applications.This paper will illustrate how new developments for one component resins makes it now possible to maintain fast early block development for industrial lines while demonstrating a good outdoor durability performance, like gloss retention and UV resistance in combination with improved dirt pick-up resistance and barrier properties.
