New waterborne urethane-acrylic technology for automotive basecoats

 
The surfactants required in emulsionpolymerisation often impair resistance properties in the final coating. 'Urethane emulsifiers' can copolymerise with vinyl monomers but the high crosslinking evel can be problematic. Novel PU stabilisers with lower crosslinking were used to create urethane acrylic hybrid dispersions. These performed well in several standard automotive coating tests.
