New waterborne siloxane binder to reach thermal insulation

The coating needs to offer new systems able to withstand higher temperatures without damages. Organic binders showed their thermal limitations. To fill the unmet needs, waterborne siloxanes were developed to act as networkers in a protective layer. Through specific example, the monolithic approach insulation of a metal pipe will be discussed: thermal and corrosion protection, even at low temperatures can be achieved. Silicone chemistry will be briefly commented and orientated to understand how film can be generated. The elastomeric character of these Si-binders allows the application of (very) thick films, reducing the mud cracking effect. This paint approach opens the door to easy insulation, softer (application) process, and broader protection to any pipe in any chemical plant.
