New soft touch, high performance UV/EB Curable resins for plastic and industrial wood applicat

 
Recently, coatings evolved from purely protective duty to a designer?s tool for giving function to the surface of a product. Apart from advances on optical effects, haptic surfaces came into the spotlight trying to connect positive emotions with the touch of products. The haptic experience is subjective, and a clear language to communicate this experience is missing. This turned out to be a major development hurdle. We focus on showing ways to induce haptic effects while maintaining the protective performance of UV curable coatings. The link between basic coating properties and the individual feeling will be explained by a recent university study. Based on these findings the main factors for the development of new soft touch resins and their formulation into high performance coatings will be explained, focusing on practical examples in plastic and industrial wood application.
