New non-ionic synthetic associative thickeners

 
In the past decade, non-ionic synthetic associative thickeners (NISAT, NSAT, HEUR, PEUPO) have evolved into the thickeners of choice for high performance aqueous formulations for both industrial and architectural coatings. In this highly competitive technology the design of molecular architecture and morphology could result in a balance of application and performance properties that would set some NISATs apart from others. This paper will describe the next generation of highly efficient, low viscosity, solvent and tin-free NISAT thickeners that are engineered to inimize and, in some formulations, eliminate the undesirable side effects while considerably enhancing performance and application properties to create state of the art coating systems.
