17.05.2019 New binder for weather and surface tolerant wood trim paints Back Tools Bookmark Share While exterior wood trim paints were still predominantly solvent-borne a decade ago, the segment has inevitably evolved over the past few years with the introduction of many water-borne products, mainly based on alkyd emulsions and acrylic dispersion technologies, with the aim of lowering VOC?s and lessening environmental impact. Nevertheless, technical performance barriers still exist with current water-borne technologies, which has limited the transition from solvent-borne, as is the case with other technically demanding applications. A new pure acrylic product for exterior wood trim paints has been developed based on OMNOVA?s Emulsified Binding System Platform, that overcomes many of the technical barriers, in particular in enabling the formulation of weather and surface tolerant paints that form films under adverse conditions and that require minimum surface preparation. In line with other EBS products, paints formulated with the new binder have low VOC and meet the requirements of the most stringent environmental regulations.
