18.05.2017 Mode of operation of stabilizers in emulsion-silicate-systems Back Tools Bookmark Share Since the eigthies emulsion silicate-paints have conquered the faþade-paints markets. The advantages of this product-group - low VOC/VOC-free - and the demand for odor- and biocide-free and non-allergen interior-paints leads to a reversion to mineral, especially potassium-water-glass-based systems. Legal regulations limit the application opportunities for biocides and thus alkaline, water-glass-based formulations offer a secure high-quality alternative. The user needs storage-stable, easy-to-be-handled systems, which can be achieved by using stabilizers. So far there was only empirical evidence on the mode of operation. The studies' target was to compare the influences of stabilizers on the colloid structures and to explain the mode of operation using state of the art measuring systems. Mostly non-destructive methods were used, which do not influence the colloid chemical balance.
