05.05.2017 Latest developments on DIN 55654: Scratch tests using a linear abrasion tester (crockmeter) Back Tools Bookmark Share With the goal to work out a guideline for hardness testing, Working Group AK 7.14 of the German Standardization Institute DIN has revised DIN 5567 for scratch tests using a linear abrasion tester. In 2015 the group of experts convened to conduct a round robin test comparing results of scratch tests with different types of abrasive cylinders on different surfaces. The test was held to clarify the following questions: - Comparability of the different kinds of abrasive cylinders (A, B and C) - Evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of the different abrasive cylinder styles. - Suitability of evaluation with gloss measurements - Precision of the method In this paper the test results and most important facts of DIN 55654 will be presented as well as real world practical experience. A major focus will lie on the meaningful execution of scratch test evaluations with gloss meters.
