Innovative, quick drying, cost-effective Isocyanate-free crosslinker for 2K coating systems

 
Today, isocyanates and epoxy precursors for 2K systems are increasingly regulated. We have made a quantum leap forward with a crosslinker which offers economical benefits of quick drying at room temperature leading to high productivity, and also offers benefits of safety, health and product performance. This novel chemistry based on carbodiimides offers the formulator, unlimited options in choosing the resin(polyacids, polyols, polyamines) tailor the structure of 2K coating system, to suit market needs, for metal, wood or plastic. Model formulations will be presented to help formulators dial in the desired properties of mechanical properties, cure, dry time < 20 min (ambient), pot life (2- 8 hours) corrosion (~ 1000 hrs), and high gloss. This paper discusses various formulations showing the capability to dial in the properties for various coating markets- OEM and after-market.
