Improving air quality: coalescing agents enabling reduced odor and VOC in water-based coatings

 
Driven by regulatory and market demand, paint and coatings industry responds by producing a broad range of offerings to deliver excellent quality while minimizing impacts to indoor air quality. To meet these growing needs, we have developed two new coalescing agents designed to address the continuous requirements for lower odor and reduced VOC content in water based coatings. This presentation will include an overview of the most recent VOC regulations, (including Ecolabels,emission tests), and a description of our strategy in designing solutions to minimize emissions. Two low VOC coalescing agents will be compared with TMB*, used as industry standard, in two satin paints, styrene acrylic and whole acrylic binders based. These two versatile agents provide excellent end use performance: the first brings fast hardness development and the second offers improved film integrity, property well suited for flat and matte paints and for use as plasticizers.
