High throughput experimentation in color matching

High Throughput Experimentation HTE is a powerful tool in combinatorial chemistry and material development. In recent decades it found its way into coatings development. In a first example we show the precision in laboratory reproductions of a turquoise colored coating compared to reproductions carried out in a high throughput formulation device. Several influences on the precision of color reproduction are discussed. In a second example Design of Experiment combined with HTE was used as a new route in color matching. For a system with three colorants in a white reduction the calculation models for prediction of color coordinates have been developed. The models reveal the sensitivity of the color on concentration changes and are helpful in shading of produces batches. HTE provides a route with higher precision in color matching than conventional laboratory experimentation.
