Fundamental aspects of corrosion-driven coating delamination: Old beliefs and novel insights

Corrosion driven delamination of organic coatings is usually considered to occur either as cathodic delamination or anodic delamination. Cathodic delamination is the faster of these two and hence is considered the more dangerous one. Although a significant progress towards the fundamentals of delamination was achieved in the recent decades, the underlying key parameters are not fully understood. Here the most recent insights into the fundamental mechanisms will be presented and the consequences for application will be discussed.
