Functionalized hybrid water-based polyurethane dispersions

 
New functionalized hybrid water-based polyurethane dispersions (PUD) have been developed. These PUDs can be used for the artificial leather coatings. New innovative polymerization techniques will be highlighted on incorporating silicone and hydrophilic groups to improve key characteristics. Specifically, how to improve the opposing characteristics of abrasion resistance and softness will be shown by highly controlling the surface state of the PUD film with silicone chains. Additionally, a method has been developed to make a breathable PUD by incorporating specific hydrophilic groups which double the water permeability of the film- a major step toward a natural feeling and stuffiness preventing product. Formulations and performance data will be presented.
