20.01.2016 Fully Latent, Rapid Curing Systems for Thermoand Duroplastic Coatings Back Tools Bookmark Share This paper summarizes recent accomplishments in the thermal in situ generation of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) from various heat sensitive NHC-precursors for use in polymer chemistry. Thermally labile progenitors such as NHC-CO2-adducts and NHC-metal complexes are discussed. Focussing on polyesters, polyamides, PMMA and epoxy-resins, advantageous aspects like enhanced stability, controlled release by external stimuli, latency and co-catalysis by the protecting groups are illuminated in numerous examples, stressing the versatility and adaptability that can be achieved by protected NHCs.
