Fluorinated polymers in powder coatings and new developments in waterborne coatings

 
Fluoropolymers have been successfully applied in situations where a high level of corrosion resistance is required. Fluorinated polymers can be applied in many different ways on metal; the most frequent ones are coating techniques. Solvent coating has been used for several decades in aluminum protection, mainly in architectural applications. More environmentally friendly are coating techniques without the use of solvents. A broad range of fluoropolymer grades are available for electrostatic powder coating and allow corrosion protection of pieces with different geometries. Newer developments focus on water borne coatings, which in some cases allow application in the field. Whatever technique is used in the end, Fluoropolymer are a cost effective alternative to high performance metal alloys and have found their place in numerous industry sectors.
