03.12.2021 Effect of graphene surface properties on the corrosion performance Back Tools Bookmark Share Graphene's potential in anti-corrosive coatings is well documented. With its impermeable surface, chemical inertness and electrical conductivity, graphene can provide an effective corrosion protection. However, like any other material, the performance of graphene depends strongly on its structural properties. Furthermore, the exceptional properties of graphene are a result of its unique two-dimensional structure. Hence understanding the effect of graphene's structural characteristics on the corrosion performance is vital for successfully optimising graphene in protective coatings. The talk will summarise a study carried out by Talga to understand the effects of these structural properties on graphene corrosion performance. Graphene with varying structural parameters (such as surface area, particle size, etc.) was incorporated in standard coating systems and compared using accelerated corrosion performance tests. The results also helped gain further insights into graphene's corrosion protection mechanism.
