07.12.2021 Dispersing agents to enhance corrosion resistance: Achieve uncompromised performance for metal coatings Back Tools Bookmark Share With the ever increasing switch from solvent-borne multi-coat systems to water-borne single-coat systems, for metal colouration and protection, the requirements for advanced pigment dispersing agents has never been greater. One of the main challenges facing water-borne coatings today is the prevention of flash-rusting and metal corrosion. Although only a small part of a coating formulation is occupied by a dispersing agent, it is paramount that an advanced dispersant is used to combat the destructive effect of corrosion - increasing both coating lifetime and appearance. Some of the latest developments in this area add hydrophobicity to the coating but do not offer the same level of dispersion performance, forcing concessions to be made on pigment loading, stability and colour development. In this talk, we will discuss how Lubrizol has combined fundamental understanding in the prevention of coating degradation pathways, alongside achieving efficient and strong pigment dispersions, to achieve the desired performance.
