02.12.2021 Development of anticontamination coatings for aircraft industry : introduction to CHOPIN and STELLAR CLEANSKY projects Back Tools Bookmark Share The aircraft industry is facing issues with the increase of drag directly impacting the fuel consumption of the fleet. Achieving natural laminar flow requires high surface quality. The accumulation of insect debris on the leading edge of laminar wings has been recognized as one of the most significant operational concerns associated with laminar flow. The main objectives of CLEANSKY CHOPIN and STELLAR projects are the development of efficient and durable anticontamination coatings designed following a deep understanding of the insect residues properties. The projects are based on cutting edge multidisciplinary knowledge and the needed facilities to provide a deep understanding of the contamination issues and lead to the development of innovative coatings to mitigate contamination while satisfying high durability requirements of the aircraft industry. The present talk gives a general overview on both projects and their complementary approaches.
