Complete appearance control for effect paint systems from design to application

In addition to color, appearance of an effect coatings is influenced by visual texture described with Sparkle and Coarseness parameters. To fully characterize and visualize special effect pigments such as Xirallics or Pearls through formulation and rendering, respectively, we need to understand how measurement equipment differ and the methodologies used to associate a samples color and texture properties. Benefits can be found in technologies that combine multi-angle spectral measurement and images standardized to be independent of color camera chips. This combined information is the foundation for colorists to communicate and formulate effect paints. During this journey, we also find simplified solutions can be deployed for production quality control, once a paint material is approved and stable. From the first design concept, through to the final paint inspection, technicians can.
