06.11.2024 Combination of mineral and lightweight fillers/ microspheres leading to energy savings in high reflective coatings Back Tools Bookmark Share In most countries, energy use in the building sector represents almost one third of the total energy consumption. In many developed countries the residential building sector accounts for more than half of the electricity consumption. (Moreover, the energy consumption for residential cooling, due the fact that hot climatic conditions are increasing trend worldwide, combining with high electricity cost is leading a real concern for several countries because in sunny areas of the world the air conditioning accounts for up to 60% of residential energy) It is expected, that the demand for residential cooling and consequently the required energy will significantly increase as a result of the global warming phenomena. In some countries, air conditioning already accounts for up to 60% or residential energy consumption. This paper describes how optimized formulations, combining specialized functional fillers with best in class microspheres, respectively lightweight fillers may achieve high performing solutions in terms of reflectance, emissivity, heat-build up, thermal conductivity, and dirt pick up resistance without compromising the commercial feasibility of the final application.
