14.02.2024 Carbon dioxide - making adhesives out of it Back Tools Bookmark Share Carbon dioxide is the most critical green house gas and it is intended not to increase it´s content in the air further. There are numerous proposals for adhesives with lower or even zero emission, e.g. by use of waste materials or renewable raw materials. But is it also possible to utilize CO2 as the carbon in adhesives polymers? An overview will be given how to use Carbon Dioxide as building block. This will include organic carbonates and how to prepare higher building blocks like hexandiole from CO2 based methanol. The focus will be on the preparation of polyurethanes. Synthesis and properties will be shown for currators, reactive and non-reactive hot-melt adhesives containing urethane groups based on carbon dioxide.
