Bio-based additives for coil coatings

 
Growing environmental concerns have increased the interest in the synthesis of sustainably produced polymers. This aims to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels that would result in positive environmental impacts such as reduced carbon dioxide emissions. To shift to sustainable alternatives successfully, price and performance are parameters that should be considered. Cost-effective polymers should be produced, that can compete with current oil-based polymers, while at the same time keeping the expected performance. We designed and synthesized bio-based polymers by incorporating natural-based raw materials with polymerizable groups, such as acrylates and methacrylates. These polymers were then used as additives for coil coating applications and possessed a range of advantages: ? Low foam formation ? Excellent flow and wetting properties ? Performance competitive to fossil-based products
