22.10.2024 Amorphous flash calcined alumina - effect on shrinkage and set of portland cement Back Tools Bookmark Share From earlier tests we learned that crystalline Al(OH)3 (hydrargillite) is hardly soluble. Amorphous Al(OH)3 on the other hand proofs to dissolve almost immediately after addition to water. This report investigates the difference in efficacy of adding two types flash calcined amorphous alumina types with different BET surface areas, on the hydration kinetics of Portland Cement. Through isothermal differential micro calorimetric measurements, the effect was monitored at different addition rates. Also, the results of these tests and the impact on volume change of the matrix are given in this paper.
