Advancement in antifoam technology for water-borne coatings

VOC regulations create challenges for the coatings formulator. Benefits, such as coalescence, flow and compatibility must be designed into the formulation without the benefit of high solvent loading. Not only are the levels of solvent being reduced, but also the types of coalescing solvents are evolving to greener, lower odor varieties. This evolution can render incumbent foam control technologies obsolete. This paper highlights the factors considered in the development and evaluation of new foam control additive for the next generation of water-borne coatings.
