12.06.2017 Acrylic binder with improved durability on cementitious surfaces Back Tools Bookmark Share Many coatings and primers are applied on cementitious surfaces such as concrete roof tiles, fiber cement panels, concrete floors and wall plasters. The main functionality of these coatings is to improve durability by protecting the substrate and by providing a long lasting aesthetically pleasing appearance. Exterior exposure and the aggressive nature of cementitious substrates pose a risk for coating durability, ultimately reducing the service life of the coating. In this work we focus on testing various coatings under highly alkaline conditions; specifically this works evaluates the attack of aqueous KOH and Ca(OH)2 solutions on different acrylate latexes. The results are summarized and discussed in terms of the effects of alkaline conditions on long term coating durability.
