08.06.2017 A novel non-isocyanate moisture curable silylated resin for protective coating applications Back Tools Bookmark Share 2-component (2K) polyurethane coatings are widely used as the top layer of protective coatings systems to provide performance benefits such as UV durability, flexibility and chemical resistance. However, these coatings are coming under increasing scrutiny due to the presence of free isocyanate in the final product. There have been efforts made to develop non-isocyanate based coatings - however, it is a challenge to provide all performance benefits of a 2K polyurethane coating. A new non-isocyanate moisture curable silylated resin for protective coating applications is discussed in this paper. This resin is targeted to enable the coating formulator to develop a 1 component (1K) nonisocyanate coating that provides performance on par with the current 2K polyurethane coatings. Some of the key coating properties that were studied were - UV durability, flexibility, corrosion resistance.
