2 component and 1 component waterbased zinc rich paints with exceptional corrosion resistance

 
A 2 component water-based zinc dust paint was developed, based on a polyurethane resin, with a dry zinc content of 95%. This zinc rich waterbased paint has a VOC of 38 g/l which is much lower than the VOC of the current solvent based zinc rich paint systems (varying between 300-600 g/l) Corrosion tests, mechanical tests and chemical tests of this waterbased paint reveals its excellent behavior versus conventional solvent based zinc rich paints and versus hot dip galvanizing systems. A pot life of 8 hours assures for a good workability of the paint. 1 component water-based zinc rich paints are currently not existing. This paper will also describe the paint properties and corrosion results of a 1 component zinc rich water-based paint.
