Novel intrinsically self-healing coatings and adhesives

The continuous market drive for more durable materials with extended life times has stimulated the development of self-healing materials. We have developed an innovative technology to create intrinsically self-healing polymers. This technology offers coatings and adhesives with high self-healing capability. Systems provide room temperature healing or healing at 40 to 60°C, and have demonstrated repeated healing. These moderate healing temperatures allow products to heal in regular use. The technology allows recovery of tensile strength up to 100%, recovery of adhesive strength and complete covering of scratches. Unlike regular intrinsically self-healing systems, this new technology offers high strength and improved coating hardness. This is related to the novel product design which gives a proper balance of flow and mobility versus polymer interaction.
