Sea cucumbers are echinoderms and related to starfish and sea urchins. There are about 1,717 species worldwide. The greatest number is found in the Asia-Pacific. They measure generally between 10 and 30 cm. Schupp et al. investigated in their study the anti-fouling activities of different crude extracts of tropical Indo-Pacific sea cucumber species. The produced saponins were responsible for the anti-fouling activities and are species-specific.
