Nail polish was invented in the 1920s as a by-product of the automotive paint industry. The basis of traditional nail polish is nitrocellulose, which corresponds to the state of the art at the time. While the entire paint industry has evolved in terms of mechanical stability, durability, health protection and environmental awareness, the nail polish industry is lacking in relevant developments.
