In crackle and wrinkle-finish paints, "coating defects" are used in a controlled manner to form a texture. The following causes lead to the formation of special effects: Wrinkling: The surface "dries" more rapidly that the lower level. "Drying" of the lower layers leads to shrinkage. The surface which has already "dried" is able to compensate for the shrinkage process only by forming wrinkles. There may be several reasons for wrinkling.
